The corporation, which operates Incheon International Airport – South Korea’s largest aviation hub located 70 kilometers from Seoul and serving over 70 million passengers in 2024 – will sign a PPP agreement with Uzbekistan with a 19-year concession period.
Uzbekistan Airports noted that the open tender for Urgench Airport attracted "tremendous interest from major international airport operators." The selected private partner is expected to transform Urgench Airport into one of the most modern and passenger-friendly airports in the region, boosting Khorezm’s appeal to international tourists.
The PPP project was initiated by the government and is being implemented jointly by Uzbekistan Airports, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The tender was first announced in August 2024, with the application deadline later extended to November.
Under the terms of the project, the private partner will be responsible for the construction and management of both passenger and cargo terminals, including ground handling services. Meanwhile, the public partner will oversee the construction and operation of the airfield infrastructure, including the runway and apron.
