Another individual, Nurmuhammad Mamasaliyev, an employee at the Borijar sports complex who actively assisted in rescuing the girls, was also awarded the ‘Jasorat’ medal. The announcement was made by the president’s press secretary Sherzod Asadov.
“The tragic incident that occurred on May 5 at the Borijar Canal in Tashkent left us all in deep sorrow,” Asadov said. “Two young girls living in the Yakkasaroy district fell into the canal. Witnessing the scene, Abdumannop Samiqov jumped into the water and managed to save their lives. Sadly, in the process, he lost his own life heroically. According to those who knew him, he was known for his patriotism and willingness to help others — a person always ready to be of service to his community.”
Asadov added that President Mirziyoyev took this act of bravery to heart and extended his condolences to Samiqov’s wife and children.
Today, the president signed a decree to award Abdumannop Samiqov the ‘Jasorat’ medal in honor of his courage.
The same honor was also bestowed upon Nurmuhammad Mamasaliyev for his efforts during the rescue.
“This is yet another testament to how highly our country values human dignity and honors its heroes. In a strong and compassionate society, acts of humanity are never forgotten,” Asadov noted.
Earlier, Kun.uz had conducted an investigation into the incident.
According to Samiqov’s relatives, he was a confident swimmer. However, they believe the tragedy was partly caused by the lack of trees along the canal bank, the presence of slippery concrete in their place, and the absence of emergency response infrastructure along certain sections of the canal.
