Italy, Uzbekistan sign deal to facilitate skilled migration

The Italian government will introduce a special quota for the entry of skilled workers from Uzbekistan, according to the Migration Agency.

Italian Ambassador to Tashkent, Piergabriele Papadia de Bottini, held talks with the head of the agency, Behzod Musayev. The two sides discussed the implementation of measures outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding on Migration and Mobility, signed on May 29.

Ambassador de Bottini described the agreement as a "historic document" and expressed support for its prompt implementation. He added that Uzbekistan, with its "extensive experience" in the field of migration, could serve as an example for other Central Asian countries.

Italy's economy is facing a strong demand for qualified specialists in sectors such as tourism, engineering, and agriculture. Starting in 2026, the government will allocate a quota of 1,500 job openings for Uzbek nationals.

The ambassador also noted the absence of illegal Uzbek migrants in Italy, saying this factor would further stimulate more effective cooperation.

In May, it was also reported that Uzbekistan plans to sign a labor migration agreement with Slovenia. Musayev stated that Slovenian employers are prepared to hire up to 1,500 Uzbek workers, offering monthly salaries starting from €1,100.
