“Fix it or step down”: President Mirziyoyev gives officials two weeks to resolve gas supply crisis

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has issued a stern final warning to government officials over ongoing disruptions in the supply of liquefied gas, criticizing delays lasting 60–70 days. He warned that if no solution is found within two weeks, those responsible should “do the right thing and step down.”

Speaking at a meeting, the president sharply criticized the failures in gas delivery, especially during the hot season.

“If we are having this many gas problems during the summer, how are people supposed to cook in winter?” Mirziyoyev asked. “This is a final warning to the officials: find a solution to this issue within two weeks, or step aside voluntarily.”

According to the president, 60–70-day interruptions in liquefied gas supply have been observed, and 70% of public complaints in regions like Andijan and Surkhandarya are related to this issue.

In addition to the gas issue, Mirziyoyev also criticized the inefficiency of local services in addressing emergency situations related to water and sewage systems. He pointed out that although 10% of service revenues remain at the district level, the lack of prepared materials means that problems that should be solved in 2–3 hours end up taking 4–5 days.

“District organizations see themselves as ‘supervisors’ rather than service providers who should be easing the burdens of citizens,” the president said.

He cited an example in Kumkurgan district, where eight inspectors in the quarantine department are only issuing instructions about deficiencies and granting export certificates — they do not provide fumigation services.

The ecological department was also criticized. While it oversees tree-cutting, it reportedly fails to propose where and how to plant saplings under the “Green Nation” initiative or identify financial sources for doing so.
