Competition Committee: Most bus stops across the country lack basic facilities

The Competition Committee of Uzbekistan has conducted a random inspection of 2,800 bus stops across the country, revealing that the majority do not meet required standards. The findings highlighted the absence of lighting in waiting areas, a lack of ramps for people with disabilities, and insufficient protection for passengers against heat and cold.

According to the Committee, inspections were carried out nationwide, uncovering widespread deficiencies in the infrastructure and accessibility of bus stops.

The study, conducted by the Committee and its regional branches, identified the following issues at various non-compliant bus stops:

  • In 286 cases, waiting areas were not enclosed on three sides, leaving passengers unprotected from heat and cold;
  • In 210 cases, commercial stalls had been set up inside waiting areas;
  • In 387 cases, there were no designated ramps for passengers with disabilities;
  • In 412 cases, the waiting areas lacked electric lighting;
  • In 57 cases, there were no pavilions to shelter passengers from rain, snow, or strong winds;
  • In 156 cases, the stop lacked a sign displaying the station name;
  • In 255 cases, there was no route number indicator.

To address these shortcomings, the Committee has issued relevant instructions to the Ministry of Transport, the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan, and regional administrations.
