Uzbekistan showcases digital progress and media reform at WSIS+20

Uzbekistan is participating for the first time in the WSIS+20 Summit, taking place from July 7 to 11, 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland. The World Summit on the Information Society "WSIS+20," held with the support of the United Nations, is a global platform aimed at promoting digital development, achievements in ICT policy, and inclusive dialogue. The 2025 forum is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the WSIS+20 initiative, bringing together representatives of governments, international organizations, civil society, academia, and the private sector from around the world.

As part of the summit, a panel session titled “Media and ICT Development: Enhancing Digital Inclusion and Infrastructure in Uzbekistan” will be held on July 10. Organized by the Center for Progressive Reforms (CPR), the session will discuss achievements in the field of digitalization in Uzbekistan, the formation of a strong information society, and the country’s national experience in this area. CPR Director Mirshohid Aslanov, Deputy Director of the CPR Qadambay Sultanov, and “Digital Generation Uzbekistan” Coordinator Ummatoy Yuldasheva are expected to speak at the event.

Participants will be introduced to the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at implementing an electronic governance system centered on human interests and expanding access to digital services. Initiatives to ensure the openness and accessibility of digital infrastructure for all segments of the population — as well as the development of an inclusive and trustworthy media ecosystem that guarantees the right to access information — will be discussed. The contribution of digital tools such as participatory budgeting and electronic petitions to strengthening dialogue between the state and civil society will also be emphasized.

Mirshohid Aslanov, CEO and co-founder of the CPR, emphasized: “For countries like Uzbekistan, which are on the path of reforms, it is extremely important that civil society can express its position on the global stage. International platforms such as WSIS+20 allow independent institutions to exchange experiences, discuss pressing issues, and conduct digital transformations in a transparent and inclusive manner.”

The CPR’s participation in the WSIS+20 Summit reflects the active engagement of Uzbekistan’s civil society in global digital affairs. Through its research-based approach, the Center contributes to the international dialogue and aims to help shape equitable digital systems prepared for the future.
