Eldor Shomurodov Joins Turkish Club on Loan
Uzbekistan national team striker Eldor Shomurodov has joined Turkey’s İstanbul Başakşehir on loan from Italy’s AS Roma, with an option for a permanent transfer later.

The Turkish Süper Lig side has signed the 29-year-old forward on loan until the end of the 2025/2026 season. The agreement includes an option to buy the player at the conclusion of the loan period.
Earlier, football insider Fabrizio Romano reported that Başakşehir will pay €3 million for the one-year loan deal, and may purchase Shomurodov permanently for an additional €2.7 million at the end of the season.
The deal also includes a 10% sell-on clause for Roma in case of any future transfer of the player.
“We welcome the Uzbekistan national team player to our family and wish him the best of luck in our orange and navy colors,” İstanbul Başakşehir’s official statement read.
The club finished fifth in the 2024/25 Turkish Süper Lig season and has qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Following the transfer, Shomurodov penned a farewell message to Roma:
“Thank you, Roma! It’s time to say goodbye. This club gave me unforgettable memories, goals, battles, and special moments with a fantastic team, coaches, and fans.
Wearing the Roma jersey was an honor. I’m grateful for every minute, every goal, and every lesson.
Roma will always have a place in my heart. Thank you for believing in me and supporting me throughout.
A new chapter begins, but these memories will stay with me forever.
With love and respect,
Eldor Shomurodov.”
In the recently concluded season, Shomurodov made 37 appearances for Roma across all competitions, scoring 7 goals and providing 5 assists — with 4 goals and 4 assists coming in 27 Serie A matches. Roma finished fifth in the league with 69 points, missing out on the Champions League and securing a spot in the Europa League instead.
At the end of the season, head coach Claudio Ranieri stepped down, and Gian Piero Gasperini was appointed as his successor — a change that reportedly influenced Shomurodov’s future at the club.
Shomurodov began his career in Uzbekistan, playing for Mash’al and Bunyodkor, before moving to Russia’s FC Rostov in 2017. In 2020, he transferred to Italian side Genoa, where his strong performances caught the eye of Roma, who signed him in 2021. However, he struggled to secure a permanent place in Roma’s starting XI and was loaned out to Spezia and Cagliari during the 2023–2024 seasons. Though he returned to Roma's first team last season, Ranieri’s departure affected his prospects at the club.
