Uzbekistan establishes diplomatic relations with Eritrea
Eritrea has become the 161st country with which Uzbekistan has officially established intergovernmental relations.

On July 11, Uzbekistan and Eritrea signed a Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations. The announcement was made by Eritrea’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
The document was signed on behalf of their respective governments by Ulugbek Lapasov, Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations, and Sofia Tesfamariam Yohannes, Permanent Representative of Eritrea to the UN.
Eritrea’s mission described the event as a new stage in bilateral relations based on mutual respect and the principles of the UN Charter.
Eritrea is located in northeastern Africa, in the Horn of Africa region. It shares borders with Sudan, Ethiopia, and Djibouti, and lies along the Red Sea coast.
