Wizz Air to suspend flights from Uzbekistan to Abu Dhabi

Due to operational challenges in the Middle East and evolving geopolitical developments, Wizz Air will suspend all flights from Abu Dhabi starting September 1, including routes connecting the UAE capital with Tashkent and Samarkand.

As reported by Reuters, Wizz Air has announced its decision to cease all flights from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, beginning this September, citing several operational and external factors.

Key reasons for this move include prolonged issues with Pratt & Whitney GTF engines in high-temperature conditions, restricted airspace access, and lack of economic viability. According to the airline, these challenges have made it unsustainable to maintain its ultra-low-cost business model, which it introduced when entering the Middle Eastern market in 2020.

The suspension of flights will directly affect Uzbekistan as well. Flights from Tashkent and Samarkand to Abu Dhabi have already been removed from the booking system for dates starting September 1, 2025.

The company confirmed that it will now refocus its operations on core markets in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Austria, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air launched regular flights on the Abu Dhabi–Samarkand route in December 2022 and on the Abu Dhabi–Tashkent route in January 2023.
