Visiting relatives, education and medical treatment: Statistics Committee provides data on tourism purposes of citizens for January

More than half a million citizens of Uzbekistan traveled abroad in January 2025, with a significant portion driven by tourism, according to data released by the National Statistics Committee.

The figures reveal that 551,300 people left the country during the month, marking a notable increase from the same period last year.

This year’s January total reflects a rise of 82,900 travelers — or 17.7% — compared to January 2024, showing a growing trend of international travel among Uzbeks. Of those who traveled, the majority — 425,839 — did so to visit relatives, a longstanding tradition in the region. However, tourism emerged as a strong contender, with 117,199 citizens embarking on leisure trips.

Other travel purposes included medical treatment, which accounted for 4,206 travelers, and education, with 2,975 individuals pursuing studies abroad. Business-related trips were less common, with just 1,060 citizens traveling for work.
