Saudi Arabia drops Uzbekistan from eVisa list; official reason unknown

Saudi Arabia has removed Uzbekistan and Tajikistan from its eVisa eligibility list, causing confusion among travelers and tourism observers.

The Saudi government has not issued any official explanation for the change. Diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and both Central Asian countries, however, remain strong.

Saudi Arabia had initially added Uzbekistan to its eVisa program in August 2023 as part of its Vision 2030 strategy to boost tourism. Tajikistan followed shortly after. Citizens of both countries could apply for tourist visas online or upon arrival, enabling tourism, Umrah pilgrimages, and short-term visits.

As of late April 2025, various platforms show conflicting information regarding the eligibility of Uzbek and Tajik nationals for the Saudi eVisa. The sudden removal has sparked uncertainty, particularly as Saudi authorities have yet to issue a public clarification.

Despite the eVisa situation, official ties appear unaffected. Recently, senior officials from both Uzbekistan and Tajikistan reiterated their commitment to strengthening cooperation with Saudi Arabia in areas such as trade, investment, and education.

Experts suggest that seasonal restrictions ahead of the Hajj period may be one reason for the changes. Temporary suspensions of certain visa categories are common from mid-April through July to manage the large influx of pilgrims. Some also point to the possibility of a technical error.

Until Saudi authorities provide an official update, Uzbek and Tajik citizens are advised to verify visa requirements through Saudi embassies before making travel plans.
